tingalpa PROFILE
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, is home to the suburb of Tingalpa. According to the 2016 census, Tingalpa had 8,290 residents.
The Brisbane River tributary Bulimba Creek borders the suburb on the west.
Some of the houses in the suburb are older styled post war homes built with weatherboards or chamferboards. A majority of the new estates consist of brick and tile homes.
A survey of Tingalpa Creek was conducted in 1841, and it was named Tingulpa. It is unknown where the name Tingalpa originated. A fat kangaroo may be its inspiration, Tingalpa Creek may have inspired it, or it may derive from Turrubal words tangul (meaning 'plant of stupefying fish') and pa (meaning 'place').
There was an opening of a post office in 1867.
A government primary school for boys and girls (Prep-6) is located at 1546 Wynnum Road in Tingalpa
500 Hemmant Tingalpa Road is the address of Hemmant Cemetery and Crematorium. Hemmant is a neighbouring suburb to Tingalpa, and access to the cemetery is through Hemmant.
Tingalpa has no secondary schools. A nearby government secondary school is Brisbane Bayside State College, located in Wynnum West.
